She stood near the fireplace, holding an old photograph.

“Why?” Alexander asked.

Evelyn looked at him.
“Because you deserved to know the truth.”
Alexander stepped forward.
“You deleted evidence.”

“Yes.”
His expression hardened.
“Then why should I believe anything you say?”
Evelyn looked at Hannah.
“Because your wife is the only person who can understand what happened.”
Hannah frowned.
“What do you mean?”
Evelyn walked toward an old cabinet and removed a file.
Inside were documents.
Old contracts.
Photographs.
Financial records.
“Your father and Richard Whitlock were partners.”
Alexander’s face changed.
“I know that.”
“No.”
Evelyn shook her head.
“You know they worked together.”
She opened the file.
“You don’t know why.”
She placed a document on the table.
Hannah picked it up.
Her eyes widened.
“This is…”
“Your father’s company.”
Evelyn nodded.
“Before Whitlock Industries existed, your father and Hannah’s father were business partners.”
Alexander looked shocked.
“What?”
Evelyn continued.
“They created a revolutionary technology company together.”
Hannah stared at the documents.
“So my father wasn’t investigating Whitlock Industries…”
Her voice shook.
“He was investigating the company he helped create.”
Evelyn nodded.
“Richard Whitlock betrayed both families.”
The room became silent.
“He manipulated the partnership, stole the technology, and framed anyone who could expose him.”
Alexander looked at Evelyn.
“But why did my father allow this?”
Evelyn looked away.
“Because he was afraid.”
Alexander froze.
“My father was afraid?”
“Yes.”
She whispered.
“Richard had power. He had connections. And he threatened everyone.”
Hannah looked at the documents.
“My father died because he knew the truth.”
Evelyn nodded.
“And your father spent the rest of his life trying to undo his mistake.”
Alexander looked confused.
“Then why hide everything?”
Evelyn’s eyes filled with sadness.
“Because someone inside the Carver family was helping Richard.”
A cold silence followed.
Alexander slowly asked:
“Who?”
