Chapter 3: The Evidence Nobody Expected

Chapter 3: The Evidence Nobody Expected

The guests left the Carver Estate one by one.

Nobody stayed to comfort Claire.

Nobody offered excuses.

Nobody whispered about Hannah anymore.

Because the truth had changed everything.

The woman they ignored was now the woman everyone feared losing.

Inside Alexander’s private office, Hannah sat on the leather sofa while Lily slept upstairs.

Alexander stood near the window, staring at the city lights.

He looked calm.

But Hannah knew him better.

He was furious.

“You should have told me.”

Hannah looked down.

“I didn’t want a war.”

Alexander turned.

“A war?”

His voice softened.

“Hannah, someone cut your hair in front of forty people while you were pregnant.”

She looked away.

“I thought I could handle it.”

“That’s not the point.”

He walked closer.

“You shouldn’t have to.”

The words made her eyes water.

Because for months, she had been handling everything alone.

The insults.

The whispers.

The way Claire slowly convinced everyone that Hannah was only a temporary employee.

Even though Hannah owned shares in Carver International.

Even though she had helped build the company’s most successful foundation.

Even though Alexander trusted her more than anyone.

A knock interrupted them.

His lawyer, Michael Grant, entered carrying a black folder.

“Alexander.”

He placed it on the desk.

“I found something disturbing.”

Hannah immediately noticed his serious expression.

“What is it?”

Michael opened the folder.

Inside were photographs.

Security reports.

Financial records.

Alexander picked up the first document.

His face darkened.

“These are from the mansion?”

Michael nodded.

“Someone has been accessing restricted areas for months.”

Hannah frowned.

“Accessing?”

“Yes.”

Michael pointed at the documents.

“Someone searched your private files.”

Alexander looked at Hannah.

“Your personal documents?”

She nodded slowly.

Her heart began racing.

Because she remembered something.

Three weeks earlier, she noticed several items missing from her office.

Nothing valuable.

Just documents.

Old records.

Research notes.

She thought she was imagining things.

But now…

She wasn’t.

Michael continued.

“There’s more.”

He placed another paper down.

“This account transferred money to several employees inside this estate.”

Alexander’s eyes narrowed.

“Bribes.”

“Yes.”

Hannah looked at the name attached to the account.

Her face turned pale.

Because she recognized it.

“Claire.”

Nobody spoke.

Michael nodded.

“We believe she has been paying people to spread rumors about you.”

Alexander clenched his fist.

“But why?”

Hannah stared at the documents.

Because she knew.

Claire wasn’t just jealous.

She wasn’t simply cruel.

There was something bigger.

“She wants something.”

Alexander looked at her.

“What?”

Hannah slowly answered.

“The Carver inheritance.”

Silence.

Michael exchanged a look with Alexander.

Because everyone knew the truth.

After Alexander’s father died, a large portion of the family fortune was protected under one condition.

Alexander’s wife had to approve any transfer of ownership.

Claire didn’t want Alexander.

She wanted control.

And Hannah was standing in her way.

Then Michael pulled out one final document.

“There’s one more thing.”

Alexander opened it.

His expression changed instantly.

“What?”

Michael looked at Hannah.

“Someone has been investigating your past.”

Hannah felt a chill.

“Why?”

Michael hesitated.

“Because they found your real identity.”

Alexander looked confused.

“My real identity?”

Michael placed the document on the table.

Hannah stared at it.

Her heartbeat stopped.

Because written across the top was a name she had buried for years.

A name nobody in the Carver family knew.

A name that could destroy everything.
