Chapter 16: The Family Vault

Chapter 16: The Family Vault
The Carver family vault was hidden beneath the oldest part of the estate.
A place only three people had access to.
Alexander.
His father.
And Victor.
Which meant one thing.
Victor had planned this for years.
The heavy steel door stood open.
Alexander entered first.
Hannah followed.
Behind them were Michael and security.
Inside, hundreds of documents filled the walls.
Family history.
Company records.
Generations of secrets.
Victor stood in the center.
Holding a single folder.
“You’re too late.”
Alexander stopped.
“Put it down.”
Victor laughed.
“You still think you can order me?”
Hannah looked at the folder.
“That’s the original agreement.”
Victor smiled.
“Yes.”
The document that could prove everything.
The document that could expose him.
“You know what’s funny?”
Victor looked at Alexander.
“Your father had the chance to stop me.”
Alexander stared.
“What?”
“He knew everything.”
Silence.
“He knew I worked with Richard.”
Hannah felt her heart drop.
“No.”
Victor nodded.
“He discovered the truth.”
Alexander’s face turned pale.
“Then why didn’t he tell me?”
Victor smiled.
“Because he was protecting you.”
The words hurt more than any accusation.
“He knew if the truth came out, the Carver name would collapse.”
Alexander looked away.
His entire understanding of his father changed.
Victor continued.
“He chose the company over honesty.”
Hannah shook her head.
“No.”
Everyone looked at her.
“He chose his family.”
Victor looked annoyed.
“You sound just like him.”
Hannah stepped forward.
“And you sound exactly like the people who destroy everything they touch.”
For the first time…
Victor looked angry.
He moved toward the exit.
But security blocked him.
Alexander stared at the folder.
“Give it to me.”
Victor smiled.
“You think this ends here?”
He handed the folder to Alexander.
“You’re wrong.”
Alexander opened it.
Inside was the original agreement.
The proof they needed.
But there was something else.
A final handwritten note.
From Alexander’s father.
He read the first line.
And froze.
My son, if you are reading this, then I failed to protect you from the truth.
Alexander’s hands trembled.
Because after all these years…
His father had one final message.
May you like
And it was not about business.
It was about the family.
