Chapter 5: The Enemy Inside the Mansion

Chapter 5: The Enemy Inside the Mansion
The next morning, the Carver Estate looked completely different.
The elegant mansion that had once been filled with laughter, champagne, and carefully hidden secrets now felt like a battlefield.
Security guards stood at every entrance.
Employees whispered quietly in the hallways.
Everyone knew something had happened.
But nobody knew the full truth.
Only one thing was certain.
Alexander Carver was no longer ignoring the threats against his family.
At seven in the morning, he sat at the head of the dining table with several legal documents in front of him.
Hannah sat beside him.
Not behind him.
Not as an employee.
Beside him.
Exactly where she belonged.
Lily sat across from them, eating breakfast while watching the adults carefully.
“Daddy,” she asked softly.
“Is Mommy leaving again?”
The question stopped everyone.
Alexander looked at his daughter.
“No.”
His answer came immediately.
“Mommy is staying.”
Lily smiled.
“Promise?”
Alexander reached across the table and held Hannah’s hand.
“I promise.”
But Hannah knew promises were easy.
Keeping them was harder.
Because outside those walls, the Whitlock family was already preparing their response.
Across the city, inside the Whitlock mansion, Claire threw a glass against the wall.
The sound echoed through the room.
“You said she was nobody!”
Her father, Richard Whitlock, remained calm.
The older man sat behind his desk, reviewing documents as if nothing had happened.
“I said she was powerless.”
Claire turned around.
“She’s Alexander Carver’s wife.”
Richard looked up.
“And now we know exactly where she stands.”
Claire’s expression changed.
“What do you mean?”
Richard smiled.
“A person’s greatest strength is always their greatest weakness.”
He placed a photograph on the desk.
A picture of Hannah years earlier.
Before the name change.
Before the Carver family.
“She has spent years hiding.”
Richard tapped the photo.
“People who hide always have something to lose.”
Claire stared at the picture.
“So what do we do?”
Richard leaned back.
“We remind her why she ran.”
Back at the Carver Estate, Hannah walked into her old room.
The room she had used when she first arrived.
Before Alexander.
Before their marriage.
Before anyone knew who she really was.
She opened a drawer and removed an old wooden box.
Inside were memories she had hidden for years.
Her father’s watch.
Old photographs.
A newspaper clipping.
The headline still hurt.
BUSINESS EXECUTIVE ARRESTED IN BILLION-DOLLAR FRAUD CASE
Hannah touched the article.
“I’m sorry, Dad.”
A voice behind her answered.
“You don’t have to apologize for surviving.”
She turned.
Alexander stood at the door.
“I should have protected you sooner.”
She shook her head.
“No one could have known.”
“I should have.”
He walked closer.
“Claire was in our home.”
Hannah looked away.
“Alexander…”
“No.”
His voice was gentle but firm.
“I need you to understand something.”
He took her hand.
“You are not someone I protect because you’re weak.”
A pause.
“You’re someone I protect because you matter.”
For the first time in days, Hannah allowed herself to breathe.
But their moment was interrupted.
Michael rushed into the room.
“Alexander.”
His expression was serious.
“We found the person inside the mansion.”
Alexander immediately stood.
“Who?”
Michael hesitated.
Then answered.
“Your head of security.”
Hannah froze.
May you like
The person responsible for protecting them…
Had been the person helping the enemy.
