Thomas Reed, head of Carver Estate security for twelve years, sat across from Alexander.
The man who had protected the family.
The man Alexander trusted.
Now he looked like a stranger.
“Tell me why.”
Alexander’s voice was calm.
But everyone knew that calm was dangerous.
Thomas lowered his eyes.
“I made mistakes.”
“Mistakes?”
Alexander placed the evidence folder on the table.
“Unauthorized access.
Private files copied.
Employee payments.”
Thomas said nothing.
Hannah watched him carefully.
Because something felt wrong.
She had known Thomas for years.

He had stayed awake during storms when the little girl was afraid.

“They told me if I didn’t help them, I would never see her again.”
Alexander’s anger disappeared.
Replaced by realization.
“Claire?”
Thomas nodded.
“And Richard Whitlock.”
The room became colder.
“They threatened your family too,” Hannah whispered.
Thomas looked at her.
“I’m sorry.”
Alexander turned away.
For a moment, nobody spoke.

Michael looked at the evidence.
“There’s more.”
Everyone turned.
“The security breach wasn’t to steal money.”
Alexander frowned.
“Then what?”
Michael placed another document down.
“They were searching for Hannah’s father’s old research files.”
Hannah froze.
“My father’s files?”
“Yes.”
Alexander looked confused.
“What files?”
Hannah slowly answered.
“My father discovered something before he died.”
“What?”
She looked at the document.
“Financial fraud inside Whitlock Industries.”
The pieces finally connected.
Claire’s family didn’t just want money.
They wanted the evidence destroyed.
Evidence that could end their empire.
Then Thomas suddenly looked terrified.
“Alexander…”
“What?”
“They know we found out.”
Before anyone could react, every light inside the mansion went dark.
A second later—
The alarm system exploded with noise.
Michael checked his phone.
His face turned pale.
“Someone just entered the property.”
Alexander grabbed Hannah’s hand.
“Stay behind me.”
But Hannah shook her head.
“No.”
She looked at him.
