Chapter 1 - The Blood on the Marble

The cold, polished marble of the Solmere Hotel lobby offered no comfort. It was a surface designed to reflect the wealth, power, and untouchable grace of the elite. Today, it reflected only blood and humiliation.

Charlotte Vale’s breath hitched in her throat as another sharp tug on her collar sent her sliding across the floor. The friction burned her bare skin, scraping her palms raw. A thin trail of crimson marked her journey from the grand entrance to the center of the lobby, a stark contrast against the pristine white stone.

Above her stood Victoria Sterling.

Dressed in a custom-fitted white silk gown that clung to her curves, Victoria looked every inch the billionaire heiress she pretended to be. Her diamond earrings caught the light of the crystal chandeliers overhead, flashing like tiny daggers.

"Get out!" Victoria shrieked, her perfectly manicured nails digging into Charlotte’s cheap, faded tank top. She shoved Charlotte backward, sending her sprawling onto the floor. "People like you don’t belong in a place like this. You’re a stain on the Solmere name!"

The lobby had gone dead silent. Dozens of high-society guests—CEOs, politicians, and socialites—stood frozen, champagne flutes paused halfway to their lips. They watched with morbid fascination.

Charlotte tasted copper. She slowly wiped the thin streak of blood from the corner of her mouth, her dark eyes locking onto Victoria’s. There was no fear in Charlotte’s gaze. Only a cold, terrifying calculation.

If only you knew, Charlotte thought, her jaw tightening. If only you knew whose floor you are standing on.

It had been six months since Charlotte’s mother, Eleanor Vale, died in a sudden, suspicious plane crash. The world thought the Solmere Empire had been left in the hands of Richard Sterling, Victoria’s father and Eleanor’s trusted right-hand man. The world thought the true heir had vanished, overwhelmed by grief.

They were wrong. Charlotte hadn't vanished. She had been hunting.

She had spent months living in the shadows, tracking the offshore accounts, uncovering the forged signatures, and connecting the dots. Richard Sterling hadn’t just stolen her mother’s company; he had orchestrated her death. And now, he was planning to legally liquidate the Solmere assets at a board meeting today at 3:00 PM.

Charlotte had come to the hotel disguised as a housekeeper to retrieve the final piece of evidence from her mother’s private safe. She had just secured the flash drive in her pocket when Victoria had spotted her in the corridor and decided to make a public spectacle of "the filthy trash" wandering the halls.

"Security!" Victoria barked, her voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. "Are you all deaf? Throw this beggar out onto the street. And if she resists, break her legs."

Two massive security guards in immaculate black suits stepped forward, looking hesitant but unwilling to cross the acting CEO’s daughter. They reached for Charlotte’s arms.

Charlotte didn't flinch. She simply slipped her bruised hand into her pocket, her fingers brushing the cold metal of the flash drive. The time for hiding was over.

"I wouldn't touch her if I were you."

The voice sliced through the heavy silence of the lobby like a finely sharpened blade. Low, resonant, and dripping with absolute authority.

Everyone turned.
