Chapter 17 - Scorched Earth

Two days later, the underworld of the global elite was buzzing.
Julian Castellan had organized an exclusive, underground auction in a heavily fortified private bunker beneath the Swiss Alps. The guest list consisted of international warlords, rogue state diplomats, and shadow brokers. He was going to sell Solmere’s stolen military prototypes to the highest bidder, securing billions in untraceable funds and cementing the Syndicate’s absolute dominance.
In a covert Vanguard command center in Geneva, Charlotte watched the satellite feed of the bunker. She wore a sleek black tactical trench coat, her hair pulled into a tight, severe braid.
“The auction starts in thirty minutes,” the Vanguard tactical commander reported, pointing to the screens. “Castellan’s security is impenetrable. They have anti-aircraft batteries and three hundred heavily armed mercenaries. A frontal assault would be a slaughter.”
“We aren't doing a frontal assault,” a deep, gravelly voice echoed from the doorway.
Charlotte spun around. Elias walked into the command center, his left arm in a black tactical sling, his face pale but his gray eyes burning with lethal intensity. He had discharged himself from the hospital against all medical advice.
“Elias, you belong in a hospital bed,” Charlotte commanded, though a wave of immense relief washed over her at the sight of him.
“And miss you bankrupting the Syndicate?” Elias smirked, walking over to the command console. He looked at the satellite feed. “Tell me the trap is set.”
“It’s set,” Charlotte confirmed, a ruthless smile playing on her lips. “Forty-eight hours ago, I officially transferred the ownership of the stolen R&D patents directly to the Department of Defense. I sold the tech to the military for a single penny.”
Elias let out a low whistle, shaking his head in awe.
By transferring the patents to the DoD, Charlotte had instantly classified the stolen prototypes as Level 1 National Security State Secrets. Julian Castellan wasn't just holding stolen corporate tech anymore; he was in possession of classified US military weapons. He had committed an act of international terrorism.
“Every buyer in that bunker is about to bid on radioactive assets,” Elias said, a dangerous glint in his eyes. “If they buy it, the full force of the US military will hunt them to the ends of the earth.”
“Exactly,” Charlotte said. “But Julian doesn't know that yet. I want him to stand on stage, thinking he has won. I want him to look his buyers in the eye when the realization hits. I want him utterly humiliated.”

“The Navy SEALs and Interpol are standing by,” the Vanguard commander stated. “Awaiting your signal, Miss Vale.”
Charlotte grabbed an earpiece and a sleek black mask. “Get the chopper ready. I’m going down there.”
