Nathan gasped for air, his vision swimming with dark spots as he raised his hands in surrender. Marcus hauled him to his feet by his collar, grinning maliciously.
“Don't hurt her, Claire. I’ll do whatever you want,” Nathan rasped, wiping blood from his forehead.
The forced march to the study felt like a slow funeral procession. The thunder rattled the floorboards, matching the pounding in Nathan's skull. Inside the opulent study, Claire forced Nathan toward the heavy steel safe hidden behind a grand oil painting of his grandfather.
“Scan your eye. Then your print,” Claire ordered, pressing the hot muzzle of the gun harder against Lily’s temple. The little girl squeezed her eyes shut, whimpering softly.

Nathan leaned into the retinal scanner, praying for a miracle. A green laser swept over his eye. Beep. He pressed his thumb to the glowing pad. Beep. The heavy vault hissed open, revealing the secure banking terminal inside.
“Initiate the transfer to the Cayman account,” Claire demanded, tossing a slip of paper with routing numbers onto the desk. “All fifty million. Now.”
