Chapter 15: The Unfinished Puzzle

Within minutes, the police had secured the massive estate. Paramedics wrapped a shaken Eleanor in a foil shock blanket, while Lily drank hot cocoa from a thermos, finally safe and warm in her mother's arms. Marcus, nursing a concussion and a shattered wrist, was hauled away in heavy handcuffs by SWAT officers.

But despite a massive search of the grounds with K-9 units, Claire was gone. Swallowed entirely by the raging storm.

Nathan stood alone in his ruined study, the freezing rain soaking his torn suit as he stared out the open French doors into the pitch-black, menacing woods. He reached into his pocket to pull out his phone, intending to call his legal team to freeze all remaining assets.

Instead, his fingers brushed against a piece of heavy, expensive cardstock that definitely hadn't been in his pocket an hour ago. He pulled it out. It was a perfectly embossed calling card, stained in the corner with a single drop of fresh blood.

Written on the back in Claire's elegant, terrifyingly familiar handwriting were three chilling words:

May you like

I have copies.

Nathan looked out into the churning darkness as the thunder roared across the sky, a cold knot forming in his stomach as he realized the nightmare hadn't ended tonight—it had only just begun.
