Chapter 8 - Stealing the Lifeboat

Bullets struck the fiberglass structure just inches from her face. Sarah ducked low and rolled across the slippery wooden surface. She threw the metal bat directly at the final guard. It struck him hard in the chest and knocked the breath out of him. Sarah sprinted forward and tackled him to the soaked ground. A fierce hand to hand struggle ensued in the pouring rain. Her Marine combat training gave her a massive physical advantage. She applied a chokehold and squeezed until he lost consciousness. The immediate threat on the ship was finally eliminated. However she knew the captain was likely on the payroll too. She could not trust anyone else on this corrupted vessel. She moved to the side of the ship where the lifeboats were stationed. She initiated the manual override to lower a small motorized raft. The wind whipped her wet hair across her determined face. She climbed into the small orange boat and released the main cables. The lifeboat splashed heavily into the churning dark ocean waters.
