Chapter 9 - Adrift at Sea

The massive cruise ship slowly faded into the dark distance. Sarah was alone on the turbulent ocean in a tiny orange raft. The storm raged on and tossed her violently against the waves. She started the small outboard motor to steer into the swells. Her survival training kicked in and kept panic totally at bay. She found an emergency flare gun and a small ration kit aboard. The rain washed away the blood and sweat from her skin. She shivered in her torn silk dress but remained fiercely focused. Morning finally broke and brought a calm silence to the sea. The sun rose hot and bright over the endless blue horizon. She checked her bearing and knew Florida was to the west. She drank a small pouch of filtered water to stay hydrated. She thought about Mark and the criminal empire his father ran. She promised herself that escaping was only the very first step. She was going to tear their entire corrupt organization to the ground. She scanned the horizon for any signs of passing commercial vessels.
