Chapter 1 - The Confession
The fluorescent lights of the hospital hallway buzzed above them. Officer Davis stood with her body camera blinking a steady red. Eleanor clutched her newborn baby tighter to her chest. She could feel her husband Mark staring daggers at her. Her mother-in-law Beatrice looked pale and panicked. Eleanor took a deep breath and began to speak. She told the officer about the locked doors in their house. She explained how Beatrice tried to take the baby away from her earlier that morning. Mark had stood by and watched his mother aggressively grab the child. The phone in Eleanor's pocket held the audio recording of the entire terrifying ordeal. She pulled the device out and handed it to Officer Davis. Beatrice lunged forward but Mark held her back. The officer pressed play and the abusive screams echoed in the quiet corridor. Eleanor finally felt a glimmer of hope. The truth was out and she was no longer alone in this nightmare.
