Chapter 15 - The Verdict
The jury returned to the courtroom after only three hours. The foreman stood up and handed the paper to the bailiff. The judge read the paper silently before looking at the courtroom. Mark was found guilty on all major felony charges. He was guilty of fraud conspiracy and severe domestic abuse. The judge sentenced him to twenty years in a federal prison. Mark collapsed into his chair and buried his face in his hands. Beatrice was sentenced to five years for her direct involvement. Eleanor let out a massive breath that she had been holding for days. Tears of joy and pure relief streamed down her face. Jessica hugged her tightly and congratulated her on the victory. The judge looked at Eleanor and wished her a safe and happy life. The evil people who had tortured her were finally locked away. She was free to live her life without looking over her shoulder. The dark chapter of her life was officially closed.
