Chapter 6 - The Flashback
Lying in the shelter bed Eleanor remembered how it all started. Mark used to be a loving and attentive partner. Everything changed when Beatrice moved into their spare bedroom. The older woman slowly took control of their entire household. When Eleanor got pregnant the control turned into obsession. Beatrice would monitor everything Eleanor ate and drank. Mark refused to stand up for his pregnant wife. The morning of the hospital visit was the breaking point. Beatrice had demanded to take the newborn to a different doctor. When Eleanor refused Beatrice locked the front door. Mark blocked the hallway and told Eleanor she was an unfit mother. That was when Eleanor secretly hit record on her phone. She managed to escape through the garage and run to the hospital. The memory made her shiver in the dark room. She hugged her pillow and tried to forget the terror.
