Chapter 5 - A Safe Haven
Eleanor left the hospital in a police escort vehicle. Officer Davis drove her to a confidential domestic violence shelter. The safe house was a warm and welcoming brick building. A kind social worker named Sarah greeted them at the door. Sarah showed Eleanor to a clean private room with a crib. Eleanor gently laid her sleeping baby down on the soft mattress. For the first time in a year she did not feel terrified. The shelter provided them with hot food and clean clothes. Sarah sat with Eleanor and helped her fill out legal paperwork. They applied for a permanent restraining order against Mark and Beatrice. Eleanor realized she had nothing but her baby and her phone. But right now that was all she truly needed. She looked out the window at the quiet suburban street. No one knew where they were. They were finally safe from the monsters.
