Chapter 3 - The Arrest
The backup officers read Mark and Beatrice their Miranda rights. Beatrice started crying and screaming that she was a victim. Mark remained silent but glared at Eleanor with pure hatred. Handcuffs clicked around their wrists in a cold and metallic sound. Eleanor watched them being led down the hallway. She felt a massive weight lift off her tired shoulders. Officer Davis sat down next to her on the bench. She assured Eleanor that she and the baby would be protected. The police were going to issue an emergency restraining order. Eleanor nodded while tears streamed down her cheeks. She had endured months of emotional abuse in silence. Seeing them taken away was a surreal experience. The nightmare was finally coming to an end. She kissed her baby on the forehead and promised a better future. Tonight they would sleep peacefully without fear.
