Chapter 2 - The Evidence
Officer Davis listened to the recording with a stern expression. The audio clearly captured Beatrice threatening to lock Eleanor in the basement. Mark's voice could be heard agreeing with his mother's cruel plan. The officer immediately called for backup over her radio. Mark tried to explain that it was just a misunderstanding. He claimed Eleanor was suffering from postpartum paranoia. Officer Davis shook her head and ordered him to step back against the wall. Two more police officers arrived at the scene within minutes. They separated Mark and Beatrice for questioning. Eleanor sat on the bench and rocked her crying baby. A nurse came over to check on the infant's vitals. The evidence on the phone was irrefutable. Eleanor knew there was no going back to that house. She had to protect her daughter at all costs. This hospital felt like the safest place on earth right now.
